Meet your
instructor team:
Nadine Ashworth

I am an artist, both martial and graphic, so when I'm
not training I'm usually working on various designs and
artwork. This does of course mean a lot of sitting
behind a computer, so finding something active to do was
very important! Starting Pil Sung Do was a big turning
point for me; I'd never really been one for sports since
my asthma made them very stressful, but Pil Sung Do was
something I could join in with, take at my own pace and
actually enjoy doing.
It has quickly improved my fitness
and confidence and become a passion of mine, and I now
love spending time practicing or helping other students
progress. Teaching is a great way to share this
enthusiasm and hopefully inspire others, especially with
the kids and their seemingly boundless energy!

When I decided to start training martial arts, I didn't
know exactly what I wanted, but I did know I wanted a
challenge. I wanted a school that would push me both
physically and mentally. After spending a very short
time at Pil Sung Do, I knew I had found my school. The
classes are challenging but lots of fun. Every class
offers me something new to learn.
I feel incredibly confident in my skill and carry that
confidence out of the class and into every aspect of my
life. The best thing Pil Sung Do Martial Arts
isn't the training, it's the people. I've become friends
with many of my fellow students and love the
camaraderie.
The hard work and effort that the instructors put into
each class make it an enjoyable experience and you are
left wanting more at the end of each training session.
The instructors care about each student and are there to
help everyone get the most out of the learning
experience.
I would
highly recommend Pil Sung Do Martial Arts to
anyone, as this is a truly impressive martial art to
learn !

I got
into martial arts relatively late in life.
As a child I did judo for approximately three
years but apart from that I'd never done any other form
of self-defence. In
2002 I joined Choi Kwang Do which gave me a basic
introduction into Martial Arts.
Over the next five years I worked my way up the
grades to black belt and helped to take the classes as
an assistant instructor.
When
I heard about Pil Sung Do I was very interested because
it’s theory seemed to massively improve on the
bio-mechanics that my previous martial arts had taught
me, it covered more of the close-range and
weapons-training which I enjoyed, as well as offering me
the chance to learn ground work which I had always had
an interest in.
Pil
Sung Do has not only dramatically improved my kicking
and punching techniques, but I now have a much wider
arsenal of close-range and weapons-related skills.
My fitness and flexibility has improved
tremendously and I find every class both physically and
mentally challenging.
Senior Master Glossop has been inspirational to
me and I have now qualified as a chief instructor.
My
wife and two children also now attend classes and have
introduced their friends to Pil Sung Do.
In the future I
hope to be open my own school and pass my knowledge on
to as many people as possible.
I
can't recommend Pil Sung Do highly enough.
No matter what
age, background or fitness level you are, you will find
Pil Sung Do beneficial to your health and most
importantly to your confidence in everyday life.

I’m 38
years old and joined the Pil Sung Do family in September
2009.
Before moving to Surrey I lived in London and used to
train in WTF taekwondo. Where I
achieved red belt status over 4 year period.
I enjoyed my time learning taekwondo and met many people
and experienced competitions which was a confidence
booster. I left taekwondo due to injury
and leaving London to live in Surrey where I live with
my wife Lynsay. After a 3-4 year break
from training I came home one day to find a leaflet on
the doormat advertising Pil Sung Do in Frimley.
I felt like a tourist and thought I must go along and
see what it’s all about. I made my mind
up within 15 minutes of attending the induction class
that I would sign up and join the family.
Since joining I have changed jobs which now allows me to
train more often. So much so I was
asked by Senior Master Glossop if I was interested in
becoming an assistant instructor to which I instantly
said yes and enrolled on the course and successfully
completed the course in September 2010.
I became an Assistant Instructor as I want to further my
training within the Pil Sung Do family and also I would
like to help others who in time will benefit from the
training I receive from been inspired by Senior Masters
Glossop and Grufferty and also by Grandmaster Hammouda.
In my view an excellent teacher is not just someone who
explains, not someone who just demonstrates, an
excellent teacher is someone who inspires.
An excellent teacher is
someone who goes the extra mile.
They
can take any individual and make them truly believe in
their hopes and dreams are within reach. An
excellent teacher will not let a student walk away until
every question is fully explained and completely
understood no matter how long it may take.
Senior Masters Glossop is an excellent teacher and makes
the training class a fun place to train and I have been
lucky to meet and make friends with dedicated members of
the Pil Sung Do Family.

About me:
I have been
training in Pil Sung Do since 2009 and previously I
trained in traditional Kung Fu for 5 years.
I’m interested in all aspects of martial arts including
self defence, conditioning and fitness. However, it’s
not just the physical side that fascinates me, as I’m
also interested in the psychology behind attacks and how
people think and act in the build-up to and during a
attack.
Why I love practising and teaching
PSD:
I think that Pil Sung Do is a fantastic martial art.
Having done martial arts before it’s great to find a
school that has a really friendly atmosphere and where
they focus on all aspects of self-defence. For example
Pil Sung Do covers long range, short range and
grappling/ground work along with how to apply the
techniques in a real world situation if you ever need to
use it. I find being Assistant Instructor very rewarding
and I hope that my skills
and enthusiasm help encourage others to not just reach
their own personal goals but realise they can also
exceed them.

About Me:
I have been doing Martial Arts for
nearly 3 years now. I have always been interested
in martial arts and joined a Karate class when I was
younger but did not continue, so I have always wanted to
get back into it again.
Since joining Pil Sung Do I feel I
have achieved more self confidence and fitness, I am a
beauty therapist and enjoy my work but I really enjoy
teaching and helping in class as I feel martial arts is
always something a child/adult will remember as self
defence and as a knowing development in their life.
In Martial arts I feel that expression is merely the
realization of what lies in our innermost selves.

About me:
I first went to a Pil Sung Do class because it was local
and I wanted to encourage it for my son. He was
getting slightly bullied at school and before it got
worse, I thought a martial art would not only help his
general fitness but also give him some desperately
needed self-confidence. Not wanting to force him
to go, I thought it would be a good idea if we did it as
a father-son type activity. When my daughter heard
of the plan, she didn't want to be left out, so insisted
to join with us.
After going to a few classes, I began to realise that I
finally stumbled upon a martial art that was perfect for
me as well: a "real world" martial art. One that
uses the whole body for defence, one that teaches
realistic moves that allow you to get out of a bad
situation cleanly and effectively. I had finally
found the martial art I was looking for! The
classes have also helped my general endurance and
fitness level significantly!
One thing that keeps me coming back is the support the
instructors give. It is always positive and the
instructors make sure students stay at a healthy pace
for the individual.
Indeed, the friendly and encouraging family atmosphere
is another aspect that not only makes each class fun to
attend, but also has me looking forward to the next.
All in all, I love being part of this martial art and
look forward to refining my skills over the coming
years.
My reasons for wanting to be an
assistant instructor are really rather simple: I not
only wanted to further my understanding of Pil Sung Do,
but I also felt that as an Assistant Instructor, I could
better contribute to the encouraging family atmosphere
that I myself so enjoy.
